Money woes

Monday, March 27, 2006

Blah!

Now i know, it is financially draining to build up my portfolio! I need money to go shopping! !#$%%^&*#@

Now i really envy those people who chiong-ed for a job the moment school/exams ended. They're prob the ones laughing all the way to the bank at this very instant. Well not that i've been bumming my hols around doing nothing but watching starworld all day long (or not), I have been indulging in some very *ahem constructive activities yes indeed

BUT STILL

we all need some academic incentives to motivate us every now and then don't we? =D

Last point to note, Singapore is so god damn inflated and the goods here are so overrated! What used to be "WOAH SO MUCH MONEY" is now bah that can hardly get me a movie and a decent meal!

A t-shirt alone costs 50 bucks! damn sad

Esplanade filming

Monday, March 20, 2006

Filming today at the Esplanade was cool!

Well save for the *ahem weird and random tourists that kept cutting into our camera views and bursting out in random fits of gibberish in their native tongue. Seriously they are freaking hilarious!

See there was this one scene where we were taking a montage of shots for Zhiyang and suddenly out of nowhere this 4 China (im pressuming) tourists appear and start taking pictures and yakking away like we were transparent. Here comes the funny part, our props/location manager Juliet was frantically waving and telling them

"Excuse me we're filming! Omfg jeez"

and there they were nonchalant as hell ignoring us COMPLETELY! We were totally baffled! Anyway thankfully they moved on as fast as they appeared, again damn random and comically.

Speaking of random people, there was also this one lady who went around taking pictures of us and kept hovering around, peering at our cam shots together with us like she was part of the crew! My team and i probably exchanged like a billion confused stares among us.

Finally there was this other china guy (tourist) who came up to us. Parked himself right smack in the middle of the scene and started to tell us weird stuffs like

(translated in chinese)
"Your actors must get warmed up and in the mood first"

"You guys should prompt them more and be more natural"

Just imagine our faces can?!?! Hahaz

Other than these funny/random stuff day 1 of our Channel U interstitial went pretty well i must say! Smooth and fast. Hope the shots turned out good. Here's to a gr8 week of filming ahead! =D

What that word means

Sunday, March 19, 2006

R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y

what does this word mean to you people?

Its meaning is simple really, yet many of us fail to comprehend or understand what basic responsibility is. Let alone preach or practice it. So tell me?

When you agree to a pre-arranged appointment is that a promise? Does that constitute what i would refer to as personal responsibility?

If you're late for 5 minutes, 10 minutes fair enough i understand. Hey we can't all be perfectionists to such an extent can we? BUT each and every fucking time u agree to meet at a particular time, EACH AND EVERY FUCKING MOMENT when i call you to ask u

"Where are you?" u conveniently reply "still at home"

How do you think that reflects on you and your character?

And if that isn't enough, you bloody have the cheek to answer my wake-up call which u so-requested for. Tell me on the phone at 730 AM which is our stipulated meeting time that YOU CANNOT WAKE UP and claim that im "FORCING YOU" when i ask u to make a decision whether to cancel the appointment and call the other 4 people up or drag your sorry ass to the place.

You seriously have no idea how disappointed and pissed off i am with you, really. Even now 24 hours after the whole ordeal i still feel like walking up to you and giving you one hard punch in your face.

Tho i've known you for years i still refuse to condone the fact that time and time again u refuse to accept personal responsibility and punctuality. Seriously, it'll take a hell lot on your part to change my impression of you now.

Ironically, i secretly muse to myself how u got into OCS! In fact, such irresponsible and fucked up acts of yours should just land you in the detention barracks man. No kid

For heaven's sake just wake up your bloody idea and do us all a favour. For if i were to name ALL the times you've executed such a lack of responsibility towards appointments and timing, it would take days and years to compile them all.

Grow up man, seriously grow up

and while you're at that. I would like it if you have the god damn courage to at least apologize to the people whom you've stood up if not me alone.

FUCK YOU alright? FUCK YOU that's all i gotta say my officer-to-be friend. Exercise some responsibility and take responsibility for your wrong-doings.

-disappointed-

I rode on a motorcyle for the first time in my life and boy is it cool!

I mean never in my life would i imagine i would be able to ride on a MOTORCYCLE! And it's all thanks zul =D

Well being a total noob at riding a bike (bicycles are so not counted), i had no idea how to even put on the helmet. Yah yah damn loserly i know but still nothing could stand in my rising excitement in riding on A BIKE!

Point to note - wearing a helmet saves your life but it sure as hell messes up your hair and feels like a bloody sauna in there. Barely 5 mins into the bike and my brain was threatening to explode!

And well...even though it was but a 5 minute journey i still had the ride of my life! woohoo

But at the end of the day, i decided that driving around in a car's more suited for me! Somewhere out there, my darling BMW awaits me! mmm

JC Vs Poly part 2
Do you guys cringe whenever you hear people talking about JC and Universities?

Not to say im discriminating against Polytechnic People or anything but i can't help it everytime there's a family gathering or some sort and all my aunties group around the table talking about such stuff

Coming from a family with damn high social/educational standards (i'm fucking proud of my family btw), it is of no damn doubt that being the only one to EVER take the polytechnic route makes me feel "different"

Check this out

Since Primary One i've always made it to the best class, followed by EM1 and the highlight of my life Dunman High School. The number 4 school in Singapore with an aggregate score of (258+2) for PSLE.

Likewise for all my cousins/relatives, Best class, EM1, Dunman High, The Chinese High, Victoria Junior College, Hwa Chong JC, NUS and the never-ending list of prestigious academic institutions go on.

There's this bane about going to a Polytechnic. In short, JC is good and poly is bad. JC is for University whizzes and poly's a place to bum your life away with that useless piece of paper we refer to as a diploma.

I beg to differ

For one thing, i love what im studying and what im learning everyday in poly. I love how going to poly has opened up my once-sheltered mind and making me think about my future, what i want and how i plan to live my life!

But still, it's hard to ignore the stares or expressions people give you whenever they ask "Hey where are u studying at now? Which Jc?" and you answer "oh im in poly now! Studying Media & Communications"

Sounds quite loserly right haha or u cud always say im studying MASS COMMUNICATIONS! yea that's the universal code for saying I'm in Poly but im not a loser like you think i am! It's Mass Comm can? Open your eyes and be green with envy! I can speak and i can think muwahhahz

okok sorry to digress

The point of this whole entry is PLEASE STOP FUCKING DISCRIMINATING AGAINST POLYTECHNIC PEOPLE!!!! YES EVEN THE ENGINEERING PEOPLE!

To all those people with antique mindsets cast in stone, i solemnly swear to stuff my bachelors and masters down your throat when i get it!

And what's with that discriminatory quota of only 1 polytechnic student to every 4 JC students in for Local Universities? Bah

Part 2 of my epic saga on the JC vs Poly entry dated back some time ago.

Happy Holidays People!

Thailand

Bangkok with my cousins!

We arrived in Bangkok at around 8pm Singapore, that roughly translates to 7pm Thai time

By then we were pretty shagged out and jet lagged even though it was merely a 2 hours flight. However the shopping adrenaline and excitement of 3 whole freaking days at Bangkok probably overcame all the fatigue and sian-ness the plane brought about.

Have i mentioned that i really hate sitting in a plane? It's all cramped and stuffy and there's this weird smell all planes ALWAYS have! I guess that leaves being a pilot and air steward outta my job list ha! Not that i wanted to be any of the 2

I finally understand why the call Thailand the land of smiles! Everyone there smiles at each other! Damn friendly

Even in our Hotel - Baiyoke Sky Hotel, they had sooo many employees. See they have people stationed every corner, almost every possible nook and crannky in the hotel to just literally stand there to smile and greet guests in their traditional thai way. The praying bowing greeting thing urm yea. Wonder how much they pay out in salaries each month. Eyy there's even someone to press the lift for u and another one to hold the lift door open hahaz!

(Cha-tu-chak Weekend Market)

Yes the famous much talked about and greatly anticipated Cha-tu-chak weekend market. It is HUGE! Before going to Bangkok my cousins were telling me "Chatuchak is damn big lah!" and my reaction to that was oh pls dun bullshit how big can a weekend market be! Bah

I was wrong

It's bigger than i ever imagined it would be! Not only is it big it's hot, stuffy and crowded! Perfect recipe to die inside, like some mass refugee camp.

And the shopping in Cha-tu-chak. I would say a 6/10? OKay okay maybe it's just me and 6 doesn't do it justice but the stuff there really isn't for me. Personally i'd classify the things at cha-tu-chak in 3 broad categories

A) Typical thai stuff, not so much for the quality or the design but for the PRICE or the thai flavor to it. Example infamous Bangkok Red bull singlets, airline bags, fake fred perry/lacoste polos, graffit t-shirts that don't really make much sense but poke fun at lables e.g. PEPSI becomes PETME or sth like that yea i cant rmb! They just change the words on familiar brands to make it look funny

B) Local thai designer ware - nah i don't mean Thai Louis Vuitton or GUCCI that kind of designer ware but their own self-designed labels and stuff from younger shop owners etc. They basically just design funky t-shirts, bags and what nots. Good if ur looking for not-so-xpensive mid-ranged cannot be found in singapore things. The downside here is the quality lah once again. 200 baht for a tshirt is the equivilant of 8 Singapore dolllars? Stuff like couture tees and bags too, blah sg is overrun by these esp in far east

C) Branded goods either 2nd hand or parallel imports/factory rejects - Think hollister/abercombie & fitch/gap/old navy and Fred perry! Yeah they sell e'm at thousand plus baht between Sing dollars 40-100+ maybe? Got myself an authentic pair of fred perrys. I also feel like kicking myself in the head for not havin the determination to look for that pair of much-needed abercombie berms. It got too hot and stuffy to think straight by then!

Not to mention 2nd hand goods like marco-polo leather bags which are so fucking vintage and rare but 3500 baht felt damn pricey to me! Ill whack my cousins if they mention the marco polo bag to me again hahaz

Yah and Cha-tu-chak also sells food (lots and lots of glorious cheap thai food) and drinks just in case you're wondering. I counted at least 50 stalls selling those traditional thai-roadside ice-sticks, or what we refer to as Bing1-Bang4. Coconuts cost a mere 80 cents there. U can just drink till u die and puke coconuts if u like.

That weekend market is divided into many different sections each selling a certain genre of items. Erm somewhat like section 5-18 is clothes/accessories, section 3 is gardening tools, section 18-23 is home decor blah blah. Imagine this, section 18-21 alone takes hours.

They have lots of funky home decor items too if you're interested. retro lame shades, mats and carpets, wall hanging stuff, lights etc! Good place to go when you just shifted house. And the price is like -omg this is so cheap it's sinful

Cha-tu-chak is just huge lah! I get lost and separated from my cousins just 5 mins into shopping and all of us were walking by ourselves getting lost in the maze of the thousands of shops in one section alone. Trust me walking alone in such crowded hot stuffy conditions make u see things. I had the urge to just faint on the floor and sleep lol! likewise for my cousins. Uber hot place, saw a couple of tourists trudging along shirt-less!!!

Yah but its a whole new culture there. If singapore had its own cha-tu-chak i bet it'll be the coolest hang out place for everyone! Who likes a cheap bargain at that too

Ok my hands are tired. There's still loads more to write about. Like the newly discovered SIAM SQUARE and SIAM DISCOVERY SHOPPING CENTRE which beats Singapore's Shopping hands down without a fight at all. I so swear to that!

And not forgetting Suan Lom Night market

ZEN shopping center and Isetan, both of which are the higher end shopping places located at World Trade City. Limited ed adidas stores, CK jeans, Lacoste

And lastly, the food at thailand! Hahaz ill blog more when i feel like it! Meanwhile happy hols people! Yawn

damn random but heck! THe hotel room was huge!
